Gout & Uric Acid Information

Since close relatives in my family suffered from gout and uric acid pain, we became aware of the foods they needed to avoid like purine rich foods, and alcohol. There is always a concern that some family illnesses can be passed down to our children.
My husbands mother had many conditions as she aged and gout was one of them. With the world at our fingertips it was easy for me to do a quick bit of research to get a grasp of what this is caused from in case my family doctor wants to know.
My research basically found that small amounts of uric acid is normally found in humans and is waste produced by dying cells that release purines, your body can also absorb purines from food. When there is too much uric acid in your blood then a condition called hyperuricemia occurs.
If your body has a lot of uric acid being stored through your body, for more than twenty years, then there is a risk of uric acid turning into crystals as sodium urate and then those crystals lodge into your joints, knees, knuckles, feet,etc, and it becomes what is known as a gout attack which is very painful.
It is important to then seek ways to lower uric acid to a level that is considered normal so that they don’t end up getting the terrible results of gout or hyperuricemia. They must seek help from a physician who can advise them how to lower their uric acid.
All you need to do is have your physician give you a blood test to measure your serum uric acid level.
To avoid getting gout you might need to go on medicine, or just change some habits that could be making gout symptoms arise.
Sometimes a person who is considered obese, which is when the body fat ratio is out of balance with the height of a person. This overweight condition means that the person is around 4 times more likely to end up with gouty condition than a person of normal weight. Keeping weight off will reduce your risk of getting gout.
It is important to watch your weight for other reasons as well, such as lessoning your risk of blood-pressure problems and decreases risk of heart disease. It is important to note that researchers are connecting the possibility that kidney disease, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, is being cause by the high uric levels of acid in people.
